Whitney Houston’s Cause of Death: Water Reportedly Found in Singer’s Lungs

As we added Whitney Houston to the list of celebrity deaths that were kind of a shock but not entirely so last night, details began to emerge about the circumstances in which the once top-songstress was found dead.

It is thought that Houston- like Michael Jackson and Heath Ledger before her- died from a combination of prescription drugs and circumstance. In Houston’s case, the singer was found in a hotel room bathroom in Beverly Hills, and it has been speculated that she may have drowned after ingesting a combination of Xanax and alcohol. The scene of Houston’s death was heavily locked down- it was reported that the star’s 19-year-old daughter clashed with police hours after Whitney’s death, demanding to see her mother’s body- but according to TMZ, water may have been found in her lungs, indicating a drowning death.

The gossip site says:

As TMZ first reported, authorities believe Houston may have fallen asleep or lapsed into unconsciousness in the bathtub and drowned… But according to our sources, authorities cannot yet determine whether Houston died before she was submerged in the water or after. We’re told there is still a possibility Houston was dead before she went under the water.

Toxicology results won’t be returned for at least a month.
