RIP Cher Trend on Twitter Gets Boost From Confused Kardashians
The gay community shuddered in fear tonight briefly as a rumor that the surviving half of Sonny and Cher had gone, scantily clad, to the great Navy ship in the sky.
Cher- who is alive and tweeting- is relatively young at the age of 65, even if it seems like she has been around longer than Jesus. And the trending topic “RIP Cher” has done much, obviously, to fuel the misconception that Cher has died, even in the absence of a credible news story suggesting that anything had happened to the beloved singer.
But where the Twitter death hoax really gained traction was retweeting from Kim and Khloe Kardashian, who backpedaled- but not before the “RIP Cher” trending topic had taken Twitter by storm. After the initial tweets, Khloe tweeted:
For sure? I can’t find it on the news…. Wow! People are sick to make that up!
Kim said first:
I hope this is a twitter joke and not true. I don’t see it on the news anywhere. I’m praying its not true…
She later added:
Can’t believe people would make up a sick joke like Cher died. These people need to get a life! Thanks twitter for clearing that up!
So while Cher is actually not dead, it seems the Kardashian sisters suffered quite a fright this evening.
