0Target Sells LGBT Support Shirts, Raises Funds For Marriage Equality
Again, what a difference a few years makes when it comes to gay and lesbian rights- retailer Target, who just a few years back angered gay advocacy groups by supporting an anti-marriage equality candidate, has stepped up in support of the cause.
Target is now selling shirts designed by Gwen Stefani (in her “harajuku” style) printed with the legend “Love is Love.” A portion of the proceeds from the sale of each shirt will be going to the group the Family Equality Council, which is based in DC but is working to defeat an anti-equality measure in Target’s home state of Minnesota.
Of course, the initiative has some detractors- naysayers who seem to be overestimating the number of their supporters, as is par for the course. A spokesman for Minnesota For Marriage huffed to USAToday:
“Target is attacking traditional marriage, which is an incredibly misguided thing for them to have done… It’s an insult to the overwhelming majority of their customers.”
Whatever, Penny’s mom from Hairspray. The “Love is Love” shirts could raise up to $120,000 to defeat the anti equality bill.
