Lucky Waiter’s $5,000 Tip After Nice Dinner, Patron Tells Him to Buy a Car
In a down economy, service staff seem to get the short end of the stick more often than most, but a lucky waiter’s $5,000 tip is proof that this is not always the case.
Greg Rubar is a waiter at a restaurant called D’Amico’s near Houston, in Texas. But getting to work has been somewhat of a slog for the server this year after his car was destroyed in a flood a few weeks back. Lacking funds to replace the vehicle outright, Rubar has been forced to use taxis and buses to get to his job waiting tables.
But some restaurant regulars wanted to help the server out, and handed him an envelope containing the generous tip on Saturday. Rubar’s boss, owner D’Amico Donaldson, says that she thought the generous tip would be far less and was stunned but happy about her employee’s windfall:
“It was a bit shocking to hear that. I was like, maybe $500, but $5,000 is quite a generous tip… He’s an incredibly hard worker. He would work every shift if we would let him.”
Rubar says he does indeed plan to use the $5,000 tip to purchase new wheels.
