Here’s The Ultimate List Of Keywords To Use To Let The Government Know It’s Cool To Spy On You
We all know that the US government is spying on us and what we are doing on the Internet, anyone who doesn’t believe this is living in a dream world. From our emails to Voip conversations to the sites we visit, the government is sucking it all into giant NSA databases, and will soon have the FBI joining in all the surveillance fun.
Of course this doesn’t mean that there is a bunch of people sitting in front of computer screens watching everything that is going by. No, instead the government has created a massive list of keywords that when they hit the NSA/FBI systems can flag any data as something that needs to be looked at.
We know this because recently the Department of Homeland Security was forced under a Freedom Of Information Act request to disclose this list of keywords and phrases. These are what they use in their monitoring of social network sites and online media in general.
The words are included in the department’s 2011 ‘Analyst’s Desktop Binder‘ used by workers at their National Operations Center which instructs workers to identify ‘media reports that reflect adversely on DHS and response activities’.
Department chiefs were forced to release the manual following a House hearing over documents obtained through a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit which revealed how analysts monitor social networks and media organisations for comments that ‘reflect adversely’ on the government.
However they insisted the practice was aimed not at policing the internet for disparaging remarks about the government and signs of general dissent, but to provide awareness of any potential threats.
