07-11 Adds Low Calorie Slurpee to Slurpee Menu
Okay, there isn’t actually a Slurpee menu per se, but there is a roster of Slurpees and now, Slurpee Lite.
And if you are watching your intake of sugar, carbs or neon colors, none of them are viable options for those really hot days when you just want a Slurpee. Until now. Being of the reduced-carbs demographic myself most of the time, it’s been years since I’ve had the chance to tear into an icy Coke Slurpee, but the new, low calorie option for Slurpee drinkers may be a boon to those populations.
While critics decry the new Slurpee Lite as repackaged junk food, 7-11’s brand innovation head Laura Gordon explains that 7-11’s customer base was crying out for a more virtuous Slurpee option. Gordon says that a focus group expressed “they would drink Slurpees more often if [7-11 takes] out the sugar and reduce[s] the calories.”
Slurpee Lite will be introduced with a free Slurpee promotion in 7-11 stores on May 23rd, when consumers will have the option of receiving a free 7.11 ounce Slurpee to mark the new product. Slurpee Lite will have 20 calories, compared to Slurpee regular’s 66, per 8 ounces of Slurpee.
