0Rather Than Compete Against A Team With A Girl On It, School Forfeits Championship
Talk about stupid but it seems that an Arizona high school doesn’t seem to think that the baseball diamond is the proper place for girls to be especially when competing on the same teams as boys.
Yes you read that right.
It seems that Our Lady of Sorrow Academy; which is run by the Society of St. Pius X, a pre-Vatican sect of Catholicism that is unrecognized by the Church, feels so strongly that girls don’t belong on the same teams as boys that they forfeited the Arizona Charter Athletic Association High School Baseball League championship.
Their opponents for the championship was Mesa Preparatory Academy who has 15-year-old Paige Sultzbach playing second base for the team.
Our Lady Of Sorrows put out this press release that says:
This decision is pursuant to school policy which rules out participation in co-ed sports.
This policy is consistent with the traditional approach to education. As a Catholic school we promote the ideal of forming and educating boys and girls separately during the adolescent years, especially in physical education.
Our school aims to instill in our boys a profound respect for women and girls. Teaching our boys to treat ladies with deference, we choose not to place them in an athletic competition where proper boundaries can only be respected with difficulty.

Apparently Paige has sat out two previous games against Our Lady of Sorrows but when the championship rolled around Mesa Prep was down one player so Paige was needed on the team.
This is what Paige had to say about the whole when asked by the Arizona Republic
“I felt like any passionate athletic person would feel (in that situation). I don’t want our very first high-school baseball team to win the championship on a forfeit.”
