A New Brain Injury Treatment Possible With Brain Stem Cell Discovery

A whole new type of brain stem cell has been discovered by researchers at Lund University in Sweden and it could open up a whole new avenue of treatment when it comes to many kinds of brain injuries.

The stem cells can form various types of cells including new brain cells and scientists have high hopes that like in other cases where stem cells have been able to repair damaged organs the same will apply to our brains.

“Ultimately the goal is to strengthen these mechanisms and develop new treatments that can repair the diseased brain,” said associate Professor of Neuroscience at Lund University and the study’s primary author Gesine Paul-Visse.
