Tupac Hologram Could Tour, Says MTV

Perhaps the biggest story in entertainment today was that of the appearance of legendary dead rapper Tupac Shakur at the Coachella festival last night.

One joke circulating Twitter noted that it must have been kinda freaky for all the people who’d been doing acid for a few days to spot Pac on the stage, and undoubtedly, the sudden appearance of Tupac was probably in part such a big deal because no one was expecting it. Indeed, there’s something a bit sad about such tributes, after you contemplate it and contrast it with the fact the Tupac really isn’t coming back to drop another album.

But according to MTV, Tupac’s CGI likeness (which, they point out was entirely generated and not from archival footage) could eventually come to a town near you. Nick Smith of AV Concepts, the company that brought Tupac back, says:

“We worked with Dr. Dre on this, and it was Dre’s vision to bring this back to life… It was his idea from the very beginning and we worked with him and his camp to utilize the technology to make it come to life… You can take their likenesses and voice and … take people that haven’t done concerts before or perform music they haven’t sung and digitally re-create it.”

Definitely cool and futuristic, but would you shell out real money to see Tupac back in hologram form?
