1Siri Ads Misleading, App Hogs Data, New Class Action Lawsuit Says
Siri may look super cool and life enhancing in all the iPhone commercials, but a new class action lawsuit filed claims that the voice assistant doesn’t live up to claims made in the ubiquitous TV ads.
Brooklyn resident Frank M. Fazio bought his iPhone 4S in the borough in November, and Fazio says Siri has continually failed to meet the lofty expectations set forth in the commercial- most notably in the speed with which it returns results, specifically finding guitar chords, locating restaurants and booking appointments. (To wit, people who need Siri have First World Problems.) Apple notes that the app may look more efficient in commercials, and a disclaimer about Siri reads:
“Siri is available in Beta only on iPhone 4S and requires Internet access. Siri may not be available in all languages or in all areas, and features may vary by area.”
Still, Fazio alleges that the app “can easily push users over their data plans,” and a complaint filed reads:
ā[Apple’s] advertisements regarding the Siri feature are fundamentally and designedly false and misleading. The iPhone 4Sās Siri feature does not perform as advertised, rendering the iPhone 4S merely a more expensive iPhone 4.ā
The Siri complaint includes all users “similarly afflicted” by the app’s shortcomings.
