0Bear Grylls Fired From Discovery After Long-Running Contract Dispute
Man vs. Wild will have to- at least for the time being- find a new bad ass to drink pee and eat insect larvae in its segments, as longtime host Bear Grylls has been axed from the program.
The termination of Grylls comes at the end of a lengthy contract dispute, and the network has confirmed after the split was made public that it has been unable to get the British nature TV star to cooperate for two unannounced projects originally planned. Discovery confirmed the breakup to the Hollywood reporter, indicating that owing to a “continuing contractual dispute with Bear Grylls, [the network] has terminated all current productions with him.”
In response to Discovery’s statement, Grylls’ rep Heather Krug told THR:
“Bear’s goal has always been to make life-empowering shows for his many fans around the globe, and he has taken great risks to bring Discovery such award-winning programming over seven seasons. Unfortunately, Bear and Discovery have not been able to come to mutual agreement on new programming, and he disagrees with Discovery’s decision to terminate current productions.”
Krug continues:
“Bear has loved the Man vs. Wild journey and looks forward to producing further cutting-edge content again soon for his loyal audience.”
Grylls’ memoir Mud, Sweat and Tears is set for US publication in May.
