069 Year-Old Woman Afraid To Leave Her Home, Being Stalked By A Wild Turkey [Video]
Well this definitely isn’t a problem that would end up on our list of this to worry about but in the case of 69 year-old Edna Geisler this is a very real and worrying problem.
You see Edna is being stalked by a wild turkey.
Yes, you read that right. It seems that this wild turkey has taken to lurking in her front yard and when ever she steps outside he starts screeching at her, and has on occasion jumping out at her. It’s gotten to the point that Edna has to leave her home before 6 AM in order to pick up her mail at the post office.
Each day at around 7 AM the tom turkey wanders into her yard coming from the nearby woods that are located on state land, and when Edna is around he clucks loudly, runs at her, and flies in bursts towards her torso giving her a sort of chest bump. Then around 7 PM he heads back to the woods leaving Edna in peace until the next day.
Michigan has about 200,000 wild turkeys, said Tim Payne, a wildlife supervisor for the Michigan Department of Natural Resources. Most of them are terrified of humans. Some, apparently, want people to be terrified of them.
“That’s an adult bird. It’s trying to defend the area or the territory,” Payne said. “They can be aggressive in terms of defending the territory.”
Payne said the bird has probably been fed at some point, losing his fear of humans.
“This bird has probably attacked, and the person retreats,” Payne said. “What it tells the bird is: ‘What I’m doing is good.’ It reinforces the aggressive behavior.”
Edna has given the tom turkey the nickname of Godzilla and while she hopes that he is gone by summer so she can work in her garden she did have this to say about Godzilla – “Every time I eat turkey I smile,” she said. “I’d like to do that to him.”
