0NASA Loses Laptop That Contains Codes To Control International Space Station
If the International Space Station disappears one day or crashes into the Pacific Ocean we can blame NASA’s shoddy security protocols. The company revealed on Thursday that various security breaches have placed the organizations top secret projects and security protocols in danger.
Over the last two years the organization has suffered from 5,408 breaches that include lost files and outside internet based attacks by organizations attempting to make money off the agencies intellectual property rights. In other cases hackers simply attempted to breach NASA systems to test their hacking skills.
In a written testimony Paul Martin stated:
“These incidents spanned a wide continuum, from individuals testing their skill to break into NASA systems, to well-organized criminal enterprises hacking for profit.”
In what might be the most shocking event Discovery News reported that NASA lost or was the victim of theft regarding a laptop last year that contained the algorithms used to control the International Space Station.
All together 48 mobile devices have went missing in the last several years. According to Martin “some of which resulted in the unauthorized release of sensitive data.”
It’s likely that far more information is needed to access ISS systems but it’s still a scary proposition none-the-less.
In other cases social security numbers and sensitive data regarding NASA’s Constellation and Orion programs were discovered.
