1Pinterest Driving Mad Crazy Traffic to Magazine Websites
Today in Pinterest is the New Everything News, Pinterest is making a lot of magazine websites happy with its traffic driving skillz, shunting hordes of pin-crazed users to websites in search of more information on their pinned items.
Magazines have been notoriously slow to adapt to new media- generally offering up content recycled from print issues so as not to compete with their own paper counterparts, and overall remaining less user-friendly than their digital only counterparts. But the explosion of Pinterest and its natural adaptivity to certain types of content (DIY, crafting, weddings, fitness, inspiration and the like immediately spring to mind) has created a traffic goldmine for magazine sites, as Mashable explains.
Hearst Digital Media’s Shelter Network’s Allison Mezzafonte told the site that Pinterest has been beneficial for the publisher on both sides- mining content as well as spreading it:
“Creating Pinterest pages [for our magazines] allows us to share what we see around the web, and not just our own content. [Our audience] wants to know what we see, what we like, and what’s inspiring us beyond the beautiful images seen in the pages of our magazines,” Mezzafonte explains.
Pinterest currently tops more than 10 million users despite being invite-only for most of its existence, and the majority of users are female. Do you see more brands picking up Pinterest if the trend continues?
