0You’re Making the Ostriches Horny
Ostriches are a curious and majestic bird, shrouded in mystery, legend… and now innuendo. (They are also as creepy as all get out.)
So this tale of ostrich on human love that came via i09 is creepy times two, as it appears that humans in the vicinity is akin to a bit of Barry White for the giant scary beasts. Yes, whenever you’re around an ostrich- hopefully an occurrence that doesn’t happen all that often- there’s probably one thing on their minds. Boning.
The presence of humans has indeed been shown to make ostriches horny, in like actual studies. And even for humans. i09 quotes:
…scientists set up observation stations near several ostrich enclosures (the ostriches were grouped as one male to two females). They carefully kept THEMSELVES well out of sight and sound of the ostriches. Then they had humans walk by the enclosures, either relatively distant, or right up near the fence. As the humans walked by, the scientists watched the birds to see what they did.
Although they didn’t attack, the second least-appealing thing happened:
And those ostriches…were happy to see the humans. Very happy. In fact, both female AND male ostriches solicited sex more than twice as often when the humans were nearby. 70% of the ostriches reliably hit on the humans when they were around.
So what can we take away from this bit of information? Whatever your job is, it doesn’t likely center around ostriches getting it on, so that has to be a plus, doesn’t it?
