Brooklyn Sex Shop Babeland Couriers Wares Free on Valentine’s Day
I’m totally taking the phrase “only in New York” out of retirement for this one.
Famed female-friendly sex shop Babeland is probably reaping the hell out of the publicity benefits for a Valentine’s Day promotion that did very well last year- free delivery of sex toys within an hour. (I wonder if it’s free if it’s not hot?) Babeland- formerly known as Toys in Babeland- has a location in SoHo and one in South Slope, and the store is well regarded for its welcoming and unintimidating vibe (heh), and a local paper says the shop will always bring you your goodies within a certain radius in Brooklyn for a $30 fee.
But everyone’s getting laid on Valentine’s Day, and the shop waives the charge on the busiest of all getting-busy days. The news outlet spoke to a Babeland employee, who explained the impetus behind the promotion:
“We’ve had people call and say, ‘We desperately need it here within the hour,’ ” said Steph, one of Babeland’s sex educators, who asked The Brooklyn Paper to omit her last name in order to dodge potential internet creeps. “It’s the gift that keeps on giving.”
The product most often called-for on local delivery is the toy known as the Cadillac of vibrators, the Hitachi Magic wand- which, we’ve heard, is totally worth twice that in shipping alone.
