1NASA Releases Highest Resolution “Blue Marble” Image Ever Taken
Since NASA gained the ability to take pictures of Earth from space they have presented us with some beautiful “Blue Marble” images of our planet and now the space agency has released the highest resolution image of Earth ever captured.
According to NPR‘s Mark Memmott:
“It’s a composite taken by a newly launched satellite. The first Blue Marble photograph, shot by the Apollo 17 crew in 1972, became famous around the world.”
Since the first photograph was sent back to Earth NASA has added many more, including a particularly famous Blue Marble photo in 2002 that is a default background image for iPhone users.
