This Could Be Described As Looking Right Into Hell On Earth

We all like to think that we are pretty brave under most circumstances and even though we all like to think that we would be willing to try just about anything I doubt there are very few people with the serious kahunas like Geoff Mackley who are willing to literally walk to the brink of a volcano and take the time to both photograph and video tape the experience.

Except this is exactly what Geoff, along with Bradley Ambrose and Nathan Berg did recently at the Marum Volcano on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu.

Geoff Mackley, Bradley Ambrose, Nathan Berg, after an epic struggle with the weather for 35 days, we became the first people ever to get this close to Marum Volcano’s famed lava lake on Ambrym Island, Vanuatu. Coming within 30 metres of the lava lake down a watercourse, it was possible to stand the heat for only 6 seconds. With Fire Brigade breathing apparatus and heat proof proximity suit it was possible to stand on the very edge and view the incredible show for over 40 minutes.

Now prepare for something pretty awe inspiring, and if you are in the mood for some more pretty incredible images make sure to drop by Geoff’s site.

About the Author

Steven has been around the tech world long enough to see most of the stuff we think of cool happen before which leads to a certain bit of cynicism that has contributed to him being known as the cranky old fart of the Internet. Besides sharing some of the goodness that he finds with you here at 42x you can also find him curating some digital goodness at Winextra (tech type stuff) and Rotten Gumdrops (for your daily dose of WTF).
