0HGTV Dream Home Contest Up and Running, Prize is Picture-Perfect Home… in Midway, Utah
It’s probably a bit sour grapes-y that some of the major stuff we know about contests that give away awesome stuff like cars, houses or Oprah-sanctioned homewares and jewelry is that winners often get a less-pleasant surprise when the taxman comes knocking.
In recent years, it has been said that winners of the HGTV Dream Home sweepstakes have been unable to live in the palace-like creations due to the massive tax bill that comes with them. (Don’t feel too bad, owners can always sell them and reap the benefits of having owned an HGTV Dream Home, albeit briefly.) The contest is on for this year’s amazing creation, and like previous years, it happens to be located in a far-flung town, at least for most Americans.
Yes, if you’re planning on winning this year’s HGTV Dream Home, you’d better start packing up the wives and get ready to live like Mitt Romney, because it’s in Midway, Utah. And like previous years, it sports several amazing, architect-style bathrooms, unique features, camera-ready decor and a hot tub. The winner also gets $500,000 in cash this go around- which should go a ways in paying off the tax bill- and a brand-new GMC Terrain.
HGTV issued a press release about the 2012 HGTV Dream Home, situated on the banks of the Provo River and convenient to Utah hotspots Deer Valley and Park City:
“The HGTV Dream Home Giveaway 2012 will offer fans the chance to win a spectacular custom-built home in Midway, Utah, a 2012 GMC® Terrain® and $500,000 cash. The giveaway prize package, valued at more than $2 million, will be awarded to one lucky viewer in March. Until then, online users can see a photo gallery and a 360-degree virtual tour at HGTV.com. On Monday, January 2, at 1 p.m. ET/PT, HGTV will unveil the fully-furnished modern western ranch house, designed to appeal to outdoor enthusiasts during the one-hour special, HGTV Dream Home 2012.”
