0George Zimmerman, Trayvon Martin’s Killer, Raises $200K For Defense Via Website
It may have seemed for a long while that George Zimmerman was the least popular man in America, after six weeks of calls for justice in the shooting death of Florida teenager Trayvon Martin.
But Zimmerman certainly has fans, a depressing number, it would seem. Just prior to his arrest, Zimmerman set up a PayPal link on a website trumpeting his innocence, and the short-term bid seems very successful. To date, Zimmerman has raised just over $200,000 to pay for his defense against the charges levied in the killing.
Orlando lawyer Mark O’Mara told Anderson Cooper that he recently discovered that his client- who was believed to be “indigent” as far as costs in the high-profile trial were concerned- had raked in a significant amount of cash over the few days the site was online. O’Mara explained:
“He asked me what to do with his PayPal accounts and I asked him what he was talking about… And he said those were the accounts that had the money from the website he had. And there was about 200, $204,000 that had come in to date.”
Zimmerman is currently free on $150,000 bail.
