2Cory Booker, Newark’s Awesome Mayor, Hospitalized After Attempted Fire Rescue
It’s hard to think of a more awesome mayor than Newark’s Cory Booker, who has in the past gotten rather hands-on in bettering his oft-maligned city.
A few years back, he coordinated supplies like diapers for Newark residents who were stuck in their homes after a bad snowstorm. And he engaged in a good-natured feud with late night chat show host Conan O’Brien, resulting in the ginger funnyman being officially “banned” from Newark International Airport. But Booker may have one-upped his ownself in the coolness stakes tonight after he had to be hospitalized for smoke inhalation when he attempted to rescue some Newark residents from a burning freaking house.
Cory Booker, man. He tweeted about an appearance on television, and just after the spot, he was heading home when he saw the fire. NJ.com reports:
“A member of [Booker’s] security detail posted at his house had spotted the fire moments earlier and gone into the building, alerting people on the first floor of a fire and then rushing to the second floor… After the security detail pulled him from the house, Booker arrived, dashing upstairs with other members of his security detail and yelling for the woman in the building.”
Booker then tweeted:
“Thanks 2 all who are concerned. Just suffering smoke inhalation. We got the woman out of the house. We are both off to hospital. I will b ok”
In addition to smoke inhalation, Cory Booker was also treated for second-degree burns to his left hand.
