0Helpful Reddit Users Smack Down a Real Life Bully, Get Anne Arundel Senior Suspended
“Bullying” is a word that has almost been weakened to death by overuse, but one girl who was having a rough go of it in school was white-knighted by all of Reddit after pleading to the site for advice and help in dealing with a high school bully.
The girl, named Sarah, is a high school senior in Anne Arundel County, Maryland (all this was eventually confirmed via the action precipitated by Redditors), and her bully had been encouraging her to off herself using Twitter and through threatening comments in school. Sarah implored school officials who took no action, prompting her question to Reddit about how to stop the bullying.
It turns out, Sarah didn’t need to do anything else- Reddit flooded the school’s administration with emails (so many that school officials were “up all night” printing out “a book” of them as evidence), and the bully was suspended. As an aside, it’s kind of cool that nowadays kids have this physical evidence of threatening behavior, because so often in the pre-internet era, a favored bully was allowed to continue if an adult “didn’t see” the transgressions.
Sarah’s plea and Reddit’s response can be read over on Ask Reddit.
