The rise of the hacktivist [Infographic]

There is a really good post over at SiliconAngle by Mellisa Tolentino about the rise of hacktivism as a valid way to protest or promote political idealism using computers and computer networks.

Along with the post they also a really good infographic that they had put together to show the timeline of the period when hacktivism first became a term and today. While I really recommend that you check out Mellisa’s post I thought I would at least post the infographic for you to peruse.

I should note as well that I am a really strong supporter of ‘responsible’ hacktivism as it is increasingly becoming the only way to hove our voices heard in a society were the government is trying to do everything it can to muzzle the Web and stifle our rights.

About the Author

Steven has been around the tech world long enough to see most of the stuff we think of cool happen before which leads to a certain bit of cynicism that has contributed to him being known as the cranky old fart of the Internet. Besides sharing some of the goodness that he finds with you here at 42x you can also find him curating some digital goodness at Winextra (tech type stuff) and Rotten Gumdrops (for your daily dose of WTF).
