The State is Coming After Your Kid’s Lunch and Forcing Them to Eat Socialist Chicken Nuggets
…at a cost, to you, of $1.25.
Well, maybe not imminently, but people are a bit up in arms about an incident in which a preschooler’s lunch was taken away and replaced with a meal of chicken nuggets– which anyone would be hard pressed to call healthy. The tot’s family had sent her off to school with a packed lunch of a turkey and cheese sandwich, apple juice, a banana and chips- certainly not a soy burger and carrots with hummus, but perhaps a sight better than deep fried chicken puree as well.
However, a state worker in the toddler’s North Carolina preschool did not feel the kid’s lunchbox was up to USDA guidelines- and so a state worker at the West Hoke Elementary School confiscated it. A local news site quotes the child’s mother about the events leading up to the controversial distribution of chicken nuggets:
The girl’s mother — who said she wishes to remain anonymous to protect her daughter from retaliation — said she received a note from the school stating that students who did not bring a “healthy lunch” would be offered the missing portions, which could result in a fee from the cafeteria, in her case $1.25.
“I don’t feel that I should pay for a cafeteria lunch when I provide lunch for her from home,” the mother wrote in a complaint to her state representative, Republican G.L. Pridgen of Robeson County.
